I've always wondered just how many people WOULD subscribe to Foxtel if
their basic subscription prices were halved.

When you consider it's what.. $50-60 a month on a 2 year contract for
something that some of us would only need for 16 or so days of the year
(ok.. more if you add the WSBK).. how many subscribers are Fox missing
out on because of the price....?

Now, if they had a basic sub of $25-30 a month, I know a LOT of people
would just right on for their 2 year contract.

For now I am happy to pay the equivalent of (less than) one month Poxtel
sub to access MotoGP website and download the races "for the nights that
I'm not allowed to stay up".. and watch it a couple of hours before TEN
show it.

miss out on the WSBKs though....:(

Anyone reckon that if they halved the price then they would at least
double the subs..??

I did... at the tail end of the season.. about $25 I think....they had a
half season discount.

Got around 6 or so races. When you consider this included the Aussie and
Malaysian GPs played during the day and the Qatar GP on a Saturday
night, then I was only really paying to watch 3 or so races before they
were televised lat on a Sunday night.

The races are streaming video, which is a PAIN on a 256k ADSL, but I did
use a streaming download manager to download and watch the race after
it finished downloading. This year we're moving house, so is now the
time to go 1.5mbps or higher..!!

Quality of the download is less than VHS, but not bad. Around 150MB for
the race. You can get teh 125s and two fiddies, too..:)

PLUS you get access to their entire site, so is worth a bit of a look
see. I think is around 25-30 Euros at the strt of the season, so
basically the cost of one month Foxtel.

I'll prolly do it again this year.....

thanks Gav..
you gave me the info I was wonderin about, thats is, how it goes with a
the 256 adsl I have.
I see iinet have pretty good deals on 1500 adsl, I'm thinkin of upgradin to
that as well. I dont wanna go down the foxtel path, because all I'd watch
would be the races. (much to the kids pain!)

My EXACT sentiments... Why pay big $$$$ for something I'd rarely use.

Been on Dodo unlimited 256k for 9 months or so for $50pm and now that
there are some decent download limits on the higher speed deals at the
same $50 then when we move I shall be looking at them in greater depth.

Even with the ADSL2 with iinet if you can get it, then for me I could
well look at their iiphone deal... no real diff between iinet & Tel$tra
with regards to their local calls... $30 line fee + 18c calls (as
opposed to 17.5c) May be worth considering to save the extra $10 per
month on ADSL plus the extra speed (if I can get it)
