Well finally got my Thruxton on the road after waiting a while for Keihn
carby jets to come in and to get the front guard painted yellow to match.
And have done some kays on it including the first service.

<--- for the piccies
Settled on 125 mains and 45 idle - engine mods at the moment consist of
losing the AI, putting in a K+N filter and pulling apart the airbox to get
the the restrictor plate. I did have the snorket out but after reading here
I have put in it back.
Intial impressions
From riding the bike with about 9ks on the clock - the motor is very smooth
(much smoother than that on my TRX850 and I reckon nearly as smooth as the
900ss I used to have.
For run in I set myself a max rpm of 4000, but I found the motor very free
revving and happy to spin up to 5000rpm before getting that working-harder
sound to so I settled on that.
The seat I find a little umcomfortable mainly because once you get into the
racer crouch, I find im sitting right at the front of the seat on the tank
and the edge of the seat cuts into the inside of my legs - nothing major tho
and Im sure I'll get used to it. On a long straight runI find i can push
myself back into the seat and it more comfy.
The pipes are too quiet - they ar going for something a little louder -
either predators if I can get them here, Thunderbikes or staintunes.
The suspension - the front i can live with for the time being - ill prolly
settle for some stiffer fork springs and maybe some different fork oil/oil
levels. The rear shocks were pretty average - I wound them on max preload
and found them to be okay on a smooth round but once it got bumpy they
wallowed and crashed about. Replaced them with a set of Ikon (cost $462oz
and delivered the next day)
Additonally I have dropped the frame 5mm through the forks, nothing to
drastic (10mm would be about as far as I'd go) but quickens up the steering
a little. I plan on going to 150 rear and 110 front tyes so this will help
in the steering with them too.
Even with out these mods, I managed toget the bike over a fair bit , tho I'm
guessing skinny 130 rear tyres help
Other mods - I fitted a Mototwin locking fuel cap - there too many idiot
around who would only be to happy to pour sand into your fuel tank so I
figured one of these to be pretty import. Im happy with the build quality
and it fits fine except for the gap between the bottom on the fuel cap and
the top of the fuel inlet looks a little unsightly imho
I also fitted the Mototwin stainless steel bar ends which are quite heavy
but also well made and look the part. They fitted no probs and give the
clipons that more of a look
I also fitted a Ventura headlight protector at $38oz they are good
investment and found them handy in saving the headlights on other bikes I
have owned
Brakes are okay for the bike- you to have to use front and rear but that no
big deal - latter onI's like to get the 320mm EBC front disk and maybe find
a 4 pot caliper to match. And I'd like to ditch those horrible mirrors for
something a little nicer. I'm not keen on barend mirros so I think I'll got
for these one from Mototwin - they look good , not cheap tho
mototwin mirrors
All in all I'm finding the Thruxton heaps of fun to ride and enjoying it
very much.
Thank your for reading if you have made it this far
